Between Waking and Sleeping (2014)
“Since 2010 the sites we have been responding to as an artist duo are the physical spaces of our family home and the social space created between the five of us (two parents and three children). Our artistic forms are driven by domestic repetition and aimed to be do-able; achievable within and as part of the on-going domestic chores.
At 16 months old our third child could only go to sleep under certain conditions: she needed to be on my lap, sucking a dummy and stroking my arm. Creating Between Waking And Sleeping was a way to cope with this. I positioned the camera before sleeptime and used some cushions and a teddy as a focus point. As a parent of three small children, even making these small preparations was a challenge.”
