ARTIST STATEMENT:
“On your own. That’s what I said when I cut the umbilical cord. Now I know that a vital part of being a parent means letting go. You’re constantly making decisions that will affect your baby’s health and development and trying to accept that you have no control over their outcome. That was hard for me, but even harder for my wife. She had carried our baby and was feeding her with her body. Along with the bliss of having a child she faced complex emotions such as anxiety, fear and guilt. I filmed her taking our 9 week old daughter for her first vaccines to reflect on another tough decision that affected us emotionally and psychologically, and to, hopefully, deepen our wider understanding of what it means to be a mother and woman.”
